Lorraine Cobcroft
Mortgaged Goods
By: Lorraine CobcroftAbout
Lorraine (Rainey) Cobcroft is an Australian author of women’s literary fiction and psychological family drama, writing emotionally layered, character-driven stories shaped by lived experience.
Born in Armidale, New South Wales, Lorraine grew up between two starkly different worlds: from a close-knit, working-class country town to the contrasting culture of coastal California during her teenage years. A later traumatic legal experience deepened her lifelong interest in identity, class, trauma, and the lasting impact of childhood experiences on adult choices.
After decades as a technical and business writer, Lorraine turned to fiction and creative nonfiction in retirement. Her novels explore family secrets, emotional inheritance, resilience, and the unseen psychological forces that shape lives.
She is the author of A Will of Deceit, Mortgaged Goods and The Pencil Case, and is currently working on her fourth novel, and a memoir titled Then Came Jack.
