Daniel Walker is reluctantly famous for being the sole survivor of first contact when he was a child. With no forewarning, huge bird-like aliens destroyed Earth’s outposts, and slaughtered his parents in front of him. As an adult, his single-minded ambition is to fulfill his parents’ dream of finding a habitable new world.

Cadmon Dhyre was also orphaned at an early age, but has no memory of his parents. He grew up in a Carrier Camp afflicted with the ‘toad’ virus, a nanogenetic interfacer meant to adapt humans to low-g which mutated when introduced to Earth’s environment and destroyed millions. Despite many challenges, Cadmon became a renowned medical researcher and nanotechnologist, but never been accepted socially due to his disfigurement. As his efforts to find a cure get blocked at every turn, he grows increasingly bitter and ruthless.

Daniel Walker is prepared to face the aliens again in his journey to a distant world, never anticipates the far greater threat will come from Cadmon Dhyre.
